Prevent Standing Water

The optimal breeding area for mosqitoes can be created by areas of standing water. Mosquitoes lay their eggs on water surfaces or near the water edge and the eggs can survive under mostconditions, therefore may species can continue over winter as eggs, others as larvae or adults. The mosquito eggs can stay dormant for up to five years and once the eggs hatch, they become larvae then full-grown mosquitoes over a period of 7-14 days.

Our trained technicians carry with them larvicide – a pelletized product – that can be applied to areas of standing water like small ponds, swamps, marshes or flooded areas. By treating these areas of breeding habitats, the adult mosquito population can be reduced in nearby areas because it prevents the mosquito larvae from becoming an adult.

The 5 T’s of Mosquito Control

You can help reduce the mosquito population growth in your yard by eliminating standing water. Here are 5 easy ways to do just that.

1.TIP

Because mosquitoes need fresh water to reproduce, by tipping items over in your yard that could college standing water such as children’s sandboxes, wagons, toy trucks, checking underneath downspouts, potted plants and dog bowls. Other areas include tarps, gutters, birdbaths and flat roofs. By tipping over these items and dumping out standing water frequently, you can reduce the mosquito population in your yard.

2. TOSS

By tossing excess grass clippings, leaves, or other yard debris in your yard, you can help reduce the mosquito and tick population in your yard.

3. TURN OVER

By turning over bigger items in your yard that can collect and hold water can help reduce mosquito population in your yard. These items include children’s swimming pools and sand buckets, and birdbaths. Dumping these items and cleaning them out every 3-4 days helps to avoid mosquito breeding.

4. REMOVE TARPS

Removing and tightening tarps can help prevent water from collecting a pooling in tarps over firewood piles, boats or sports equipment, and that can help reduce your mosquito population in your yard.
